Dear Diary,
I, Akmenos Surrelion IX, have fallen in with a rather scraggly band of adventurers. We met in a dungeon through which Ingo, Blotter, Jenna and your’s truly were crawling. We (and by “we” I mean everybody but me) were being chased by goblins (I just happened to want the treasure that was in the direction OTHER than the goblins). We came upon another group of adventurers who were running from skeletons, the vile creatures.
You should have seen me, diary! I flung fire like it was going out of style… even though it’s not. Sword blazing, I fought on even though Blotter was skewered by the goblins and Ingo, in his grief, left our group of Antioch. He never was much of an adventurer.
Jenna and I, however, were pleased to find that the other group of adventurers were hiring. We returned to Antioch, got rid of the odd rust man, and sold off some dead goblin bodies. 50 gold was our take, split evenly amongst the five of us. As the pay is good, we plan on returning to the goblin stronghold tomorrow to, ahem, collect.
This new group, and this new gold, will serve me well in the weeks to come, as I learn and prepare for the re-emergence of Bael Turath!
Until then, diary… Akmenos Surrelion IX
Comments
I agree with Tuathal about keeping our comments over here.
Our ideas so far for goblin farming, as I recall, are to smoke them out, set traps, set fire orbs, build a blind from which to shoot down upon the goblins as they emerge… anything else?
Also, how does our group’s moral compass point regarding the possibility of baby gobbies still in the ruins?
Hahaha classic! I’m working on a map of the surface of the ruins, it’s different from the map that was posted on the site last week. There’s a few details on the wiki entry right now and I will add more soon. Hopefully I’ll be finished with the map and the wiki entry before tomorrow night.
Also I’m almost certain Shalai will be against killing baby gobbos… not sure about the rest though.
Well, I’ve got a drawing of a view of the monastery from afar along with a better description of the surface of the ruins posted on the ‘Ruined Monastery’ wiki entry. Good luck on the planning everybody!
BTW, does Wednesday @ 5:00pm work with everybody’s schedule this week?
Aimee and I can’t really make it before 5:30…
As for Goblin baby’s, Sable thinks they spawn fully grown from the dark one’s own bosom, armored and ready to kill villagers… so no worries there… unless someone teaches him otherwise… :)
5:30pm is fine.
Goblin’s tend to be like any other humanoid in this world in terms of reproduction and growth so there are goblins babies. I will write up a better description of them on the wiki later tonight but goblins are mutated humanoids. They are an unpredictably adaptable species and have been known to be natural, aberrant, magical and infernal in origin. They also run the whole spectrum of alignment ranging from lawful good through unaligned and of course the fantasy traditional chaotic evil.
Sable’s experience may have varied though coming from the fey wild. Fey goblins may in fact be the spawns of a dark one. So his experiences may color his views on goblinoids in general.
Ahh. I don’t know what to do about the baby goblins. Shalai is unaligned and I think that she would prefer to find a way to spare them but in the end would do anything necessary. Ahhhh!!!! I’m having second thoughts about this massive killing thing although I think that if we go ahead and smoke everything we should invest in some smoke bombs instead of making a wood fire and I am pretty sure that there has to be a second exit/entrance since there were hardly any goblins near the one we were at and the doors were so rusty and it looked as though no one had been through that specific area in ages. Either way we will have to scout the premises and perhaps we will have to find out something that will us decide what to do then. Also the goblins have to come out during the day to hunt and stuff, maybe we could surround the premises to see where the goblin hunter/gatherers come out to see where the other entrances are and then we could attack the ones above ground. How did Akmenos, Jenna and the other 2 get into the dungeon, same way???? I assume so but it seems as they should know more of the dungeon since they came from the other side of the dungeon.
Also, I think the bounty was for dead or alive. If we could find a way to capture, rather than maim or outright kill the whole lot of them, that would be good. Perhaps a cage over the entrance?
Jonathan and I won’t be able to attend this week’s session after all. Someone we want to get together with is coming to the island and only has Wednesday evening available. We’ll be back next week, sorry for the flaking.
Bummer, ah well hopefully you two can join us next week then no worries.
Sable said, “I didn’t come from the feywyld, I came through the feywyld. Teyland Ford was as normal a place as here. Just not as… open minded. Growing up, I think I’d seen less than a dozen people from outside my village. I’d actually met even fewer. The other people in the village didn’t like outsiders or anything out of the ordinary. Very superstitious. When my abilities started showing themselves, even my parents weren’t able to keep me safe from the rest of the village. So I ran. I didn’t know where I was going, still don’t know how I got here. I just found myself in a strange woods filled with strange animals and other creatures. I hid and kept running, for weeks at least. When I finally came out of the woods, I found myself here. I was taken in by some farmers as a lost stray. I couldn’t speak your language at first but I eventually caught on. They let me do work for them at the farm but eventually they couldn’t afford to support me and they sent me to town to work for a friend of theirs, the proprietor of the Blue Morningstar. It wasn’t long before you met me and my disagreements with him about proper business sense came to a head.”
I Love the idea of smoke bombs! That might work even better than the original idea. I expect that we will scout the area before heading in.. so we can look for alternate enterances, hiding places, fire wood, goblins to pick off before the fight, places to set traps and that sort of thing. As for baby goblins, I’m not too sure what Battinggu would do… prolly not too keen on killing them if they are just running away, but thats why there is the “Or Alive” clause to the bounty… or we could catch one & train it to do tricks like “fetch”, “carry my heavy loot” or “you run towards the dragon while we run away”... could be more trouble than its worth though… and if the little buggers attack they are fair game! :p
Yay! I like the idea of capturing the baby goblins so that we don’t have to kill them, and super love the idea of raising them to be on our side : P Def need nets as well. I still have some cash left and I remember a certain half elf didn’t pitch in at all when we bought the lizards and the cart (ahh, can’t remember there names but I remember they had awesome names too cold and tired to look for my sheet right now : P ), I wonder if we could learn how to craft nets out of natural fibers relatively quickly? I can imagine it would take a long time to make a net tho… looking forward to Wednesday : )
I’m not so sure that smoke bombs or smoke in general will work. All they’ve got to do is close a door and seal it and they’d be fine. Might even be able to seal a door between us and some other exit we don’t know about that way and we’d never find out. If a door is properly closed, smoke won’t do a thing… and smoke rises, not falls. The goblins on any lower levels of this thing won’t notice…
